Colorado Springs is located in the Central
Rockies region of Colorado,
near Pike's
Peak, one of the most frequented mountains in the United
States. Despite its high altitude location, Colorado Springs gets less snow
than Denver and Salt
Lake City, Utah, which in turn
allows visitors to get out and enjoy the splendor of Colorado without uncomfortable
weather extremes. Activities are abundant here and include fishing, hot air ballooning,
rock climbing and golfing, to name a few. One popular local destination is the
Garden
of the Gods, a park with an interpretive center and a variety of ecosystems
and wildlife habitats. Museums are abundant here and encompass a variety of topics,
such as the themes covered at the World
Figure Skating Museum, the Pro
Rodeo Hall of Fame and Colorado
Springs Pioneer Museum. For families, the Cheyenne
Mountain Zoo boasts a collection of more than 500 animals, including 25 endangered
species, including tigers, elephants and giraffes.
